Profile - Mike Meijer
Michael Meijer graduated in Civil Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1956. Early years were spent as resident engineer on road and street construction sites, with time in the office on the design of rural roads, and parts of the Gauteng freeway network, as well as some airport planning. He joined the Bituminous Materials Division of the National Institute for Road Research, arranging field experiments on sealing, investigating spray bars, nozzles and distributor performance.
Mike spent time in the USA during the sixties, returning with an M Eng degree from the University of California at Berkeley after also having worked with traffic consultants Wilbur Smith & Associates in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Work there included the planning of an early single-point interchange in Canada, and parking and circulation planning for L.A. International airport.
Back in RSA, he worked briefly on the study design for the PWV Major Roads Study, then became a partner in the firm MBS Consulting Engineers. He dealt with road planning, geometric, pavement and drainage design, site work and traffic planning. In 1994. Mike joined the Gauteng Provincial Government as Chief Engineer for Traffic Operations, dealing with traffic signals, road safety matters, traffic impact studies, speed limits and access and intersection problems.
He joined TTT Africa in 2005, and devotes himself to purely technical work on traffic impact studies, layout and network planning, traffic signals and the like (a hobby).
